RESILIENCE is helping our society wake up to the impact of childhood trauma.

The findings of the Adverse Childhood Effects study, published in 1998, have revealed the most important public health findings of a generation. Scientists now realise that extreme childhood trauma is one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression. Join us to find out how that was discovered — and what we can all do to act on its insights.

We wanted to take the next Step, supporting understanding or ACES, but also the Science of HOPE (kpjrfilms)

PAPER TIGERS

The ACES study contains the seed of hope: all of the above-mentioned risk factors—behavioral as well as physiological—can be offset by the presence of one dependable and caring adult. It doesn’t need to be the mother or the father. It doesn’t even need to be a close or distant relative.

More often than not, that stable, caring adult is a teacher.

Paper Tigers asks the following questions: What does it mean to be a trauma-informed school? And how do you educate teens whose childhood experiences have left them with a brain and body ill-suited to learn?(kpjrfilms)

TINA HENDRY

I am a KINSHIP CARER of 2 girls who are ACEs experienced. I am Police Officer who has experienced the impact of ACES within communities.

I am passionate about raising awareness of why attachment and human connection matter thereby improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

Poor outcomes are NOT inevitable when we see the child NOT the behaviour. This is why i offer information and support for parents and carers to aid the healing process.

I champion investment in parents and carers by raising the profile of Attachment Theory to break the cycle within families/communities and instill hope.

For the past 3 years I have been taking “Trauma Informed Practice” to professionals and practitioners, working with them to make this part of their day to day practice, resulting in real positive changes in lives.
